Butchart Gardens tickets and prices

The Butchart Gardens charge a different price in almost every season, and the opening hours move with them. Here is what a ticket costs, when you can use it and how it works on a day tour from Vancouver.

The Butchart Gardens are a privately owned, family-run display garden of 55 acres in Brentwood Bay, on the Saanich Peninsula north of Victoria. They began when Jennie Butchart turned her husband's exhausted limestone quarry into the Sunken Garden, and they became a National Historic Site of Canada in 2004.

Prices below are the gardens' own published rates for 2026 and early 2027, in Canadian dollars. Every day tour from Vancouver on this site includes admission in its USD price.

Is admission included on tours from Vancouver?

Yes, on every day tour from Vancouver we list; the only exception is the one-way coach and ferry transfer, which stops in downtown Victoria.

Tour prices are in USD and run from $162 to $257 per adult with the round-trip ferry included. STAR Sightseeing and the gardens-first Westcoast Sightseeing tour describe their tickets as skip-the-line. If you are already in Victoria, the Butchart tour from Victoria ($105) includes the ticket and hotel pickup.

What are the five gardens?

The Sunken Garden, the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Italian Garden and the Mediterranean Garden.

  • Sunken Garden: the old quarry pit, completed in 1921, with the Ross Fountain added in 1964.
  • Rose Garden: planted in 1929, with about 2,500 rose plants of some 280 varieties.
  • Japanese Garden: shaded paths, maples and streams, best in spring and autumn.
  • Italian Garden: built in 1926 on the site of the family's tennis courts, next to the gelateria.
  • Mediterranean Garden: the smallest, with plants from warmer, drier climates.

How long do you need at the Butchart Gardens?

About 1.5 to 2 hours covers the main gardens at a steady pace; allow half a day if you want afternoon tea, the shop and time to sit.

That is exactly what the day tours give you: 1.5 hours on Landsea, 1 hour 45 minutes on the mini-coach and budget tours, 2 hours on the gardens-first and STAR tours. One Landsea guest still wanted more. If that sounds like you, the executive coach tour and the STAR tour both give 2 hours, and the tour from Victoria gives 2.5.

Where can you eat, and is there afternoon tea?

Yes: The Dining Room Restaurant serves afternoon tea, and there are also The Blue Poppy Restaurant, a coffee shop and a gelateria.

On a day tour, a sit-down afternoon tea is hard to fit into 1.5 to 2 hours; the coffee shop or the gelateria by the Italian Garden is the realistic choice. If afternoon tea is the point of your trip, stay a night in Victoria and book it separately. Lunch is never included on the tours.

Afternoon tea needs time; on a day tour, the coffee shop is quicker.

Is it cheaper to buy the ticket yourself?

Only if you already have your own way there; the ticket is a small part of the day's cost next to the ferry and transport.

Bought at the gate, adult admission is C$36.75 in October 2026. A day tour folds that into one USD price with the ferry and coach. Tours sell the logistics and the timing, not a discount on the ticket.

Would rather not juggle ferries and buses? The day tour includes the ticket and both crossings.

What else is on site?

A Seed and Gift Store, the Rose Carousel and, in July and August, fireworks on Saturday nights, included with admission.

Day tours from Vancouver leave before the fireworks, so you need to stay in Victoria to see them. The gardens are also known for seasonal shows, from spring bulbs to the Christmas lights; see the best time to visit.

Is the Butchart Gardens worth the price?

Yes for most visitors: it draws over a million people a year, and guests on every tour we compare call it the highlight of the day.

The one caveat is season. A garden between plantings looks quieter than the photos, and in November the hours shrink to 10 AM to 4:30 PM. Light rain is no reason to cancel: guests report the gardens were beautiful in the rain.
